Easter Weekend 2006

The club’s trip to Schull over the Easter weekend was another great success. Twenty members travelled down on Thursday and Friday with both RIBs, the inflatable and compressor in tow. This was in stark contrast to a certain other sub-aqua club holidaying in Schull with thirty divers…and no boats!!!

The weather was exceptionally kind with sunshine and flat calm conditions adding to the enjoyment. Some sixty dives were completed over the four days with trainee Michael successfully completing his first Irish water dive. Congratulations!

Club members attended a number of religious services over the weekend and I’m happy to report that no alcohol was consumed on Good Friday. One club member was so overcome by religious fervour on Friday (i.e. blotto), he didn’t surface until Saturday evening. And then he retired early. To avoid any embarrassment no names will be mentioned. His new bride did an excellent job as coxswain on Sunday.

Schull proved to be a popular choice for the weekend. The accommodations at The Moorings were excellent, Newman’s ‘pan loaf’ sandwiches were most welcome in between dives and the pint in O’Regans was second to none.

Sunday’s trip by both RIBs to Mizen Head via the Fastnet Lighthouse was a memorable highlight. Check out the photo gallery for some spectacular shots. The weekend was rounded off on Monday by a trip to Lough Hyne in Baltimore for a dive…and a picnic.

Many thanks to those who contributed to making the weekend the success that it was. Firstly to Leah for organising the weekend and accommodations. To Mike for organising the dives. And lastly but by no means least to Peter, John N, John G and Matt for transporting the RIBs, inflatable and compressor to and from Schull.

See you all at The Hook for the May Bank Holiday Weekend.
