Details for the Club Holiday to Downings have been issued by e-mail.  Please can everyone ensure that outstanding monies are paid before we travel. Also can people come early to the pool on Thursday (20.30) to get the boats ready and pack the trailer.

Finally, after a leisurely visit to Achill, the Basking Sharks are currently enjoying the sights of Downings Bay.  Hopefully, we can get some more close encounters…….

PS Louth are apparently ‘preparing to tutor Tyrone in the ways of righteousness on Saturday, while simultaneously teaching them a lesson in football’ (according to one unbiased member of the Club),  Game kicks off at 15.30 in Omagh.  Those travelling should bear this in mind and try to avoid the crowds.

Dive Last Sunday

Just back from the delights of Achill, it was hard to become enthused about diving in Dublin again. However a group of us braved the tempest last Sunday and dived in the shelter of Howth Head at Balscadden. Despite the run(why do we always seem to dive Balscadden on Springs?) everyone had a great time. The vis was surprisingly good despite the winds of the last few days, and the Sun Shone, even underwater.

I dived with Gillian and Gyvsie and, for the first time ever, saw a bird underwater. It was a guillemot(not a penguin as John and I both thought!!) and it swam around us for a few seconds before heading back to the surface. Amazing sight and one I’ve always wanted to see.

On their dive, John Broderick and Mark had not only to contend with John’s new drysuit(ooooh fancy!)but they were scared stiff by the beast that lurks under the concrete plinth on Gull rock! Apparently the biggest lobster in creation lives there. We are planning an expedition in the near future to investigate and corroborate their story.

Thanks to Les and Gyvsie for planning the dive and Peter and Les for towing and to everyone who was there for the craic.

Marie.

Due to the bad weather forecast, there will be a dive this Sunday (May 21st) on the Alasdair in Strangford Lough.  This is a shore dive to a small wreck. The depth is around 17m to 20m and the dive can often be dark but there is usually plenty of life on and around it.  You will need to be dived up to 15m and you need to bring a torch.  Contact Ed if you are interested - see Members Area for contact details.
